Young’s Jersey Dairy

When I was in college I used to go with a group of friends to Young’s Jersey Dairy. Sometimes it was for ice cream and other times to hike in nearby Bryant Park. Even though I hadn’t been in a while, I had a feeling it would be a timeless treasure. I’m a firm believer that you’re never too old to enjoy things with a childlike spirit. Life is about making moments and making memories.

When I went back with a group of girlfriends to celebrate some birthdays, we had such a genuinely fun time. Young’s Dairy is truly a great day or evening adventure because it has so many things to do and it’s super easy to relax there. Young’s has an incredible restaurant that serves home-cooked, country-filling food, a barn with animals to pet, a miniature golf course, a small cheese shop, a corn maze, and best of all, an ice cream shop.

The Golden Jersey Inn, their restaurant, serves home style country food. Think buttermilk chicken (delicious), meatloaf, liver and onions (my Dad’s favorite), chicken and dumplings (friend loved these here), pork chops, and cube steak (ate this a lot growing up)! The main dishes are consistently good, but none of us could stop talking about the homemade applesauce. Oh my goodness! It tastes like someone’s grandma is cooking it up with love. Also, start with the cheese curds– best I’ve had in Ohio. While you might technically be eating out, everything feels like it’s made at home (only better)!

The ice cream, which is incredibly rich, smooth, and creamy, is made on sight from their own dairy cows. There’s nothing else quite like it. They use 15% butterfat, pasteurized milk, cream, and sugar. There are so many flavors to choose from it’s almost overwhelming. There are traditional flavors, of course, and some not so traditional flavors such as Wooly Wonka, Cow Patty, and Banana Cookie Crunch. Bonus, if it’s your birthday, you get a free cowbell with your ice cream. Still have mine!  (I look drunk on ice cream in this picture…it’s that good!)

I am a total putt putt golf fan, and this course, called Udders & Putters (how cute is that name people?) has two farm-themed courses. The “Greener Pastures” course is the more challenging then the “Barnyard Blitz” course. Both are open year round!

This is one of those places for people of all ages to just get lost for a couple hours, relax, feel like a kid, step out of the city, breeze some fresh air, and feel at peace. We had such a great time, from the car ride there and back, to the goats, to the miniature golf, to the ice cream.

My suggestion, head over early, grab dinner, walk around and check out the barn. Then, play a round of putt putt golf, and end your trip with some incredible ice cream.

GO THERE (Young’s Jersey Dairy)!  TRY THAT (ice cream, applesauce, barn, golf)!
