I’m always on the lookout for great burger places; it’s a quest of sorts. I definitely have favorites; Sammy’s Gourmet Burgers & Beers was a new find. Turns out, this small restaurant in Blue Ash offers a really solid burger menu and an equally impressive craft beer selection! In fact, according to my husband, it’s easy to choose a beer because Sammy’s provides a beer chart with the following: name, brewery, style, origin, and ABV. The menu includes a variety of burgers from the simple classic cheeseburger to the maple bacon to the chili (and many more)! Not pretty to eat, but great flavor combinations. All burgers are served with garlic fries, which are garlicky good, but I am also a sucker for their thick-style onion rings!
If you have room to start with an appetizer, Sammy’s has many interesting options: fried pickle chips, buffalo chicken dip, deep fried banana peppers, and sweet potato fries are just a few. Last time we were there we started with the Buffalo Chicken Rolls– great heat and flavor in those! And that dippy-do (as my friend refers to sauce) is delicious!
Burgers at Sammy’s are an 8 oz. blend of short rib and chuck; they hand-patty and grill the burgers. My favorite is the guacamole burger with chipotle mayo (this mayo is superb), guac, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and cheddar jack cheese. One of my go-to combinations anyway and it works well with a burger. I also really appreciate the honey kaiser roll that the burgers are served on. It’s a nice touch.
My friend ordered the Sammy burger. This one, topped with Sammy sauce, comes with bacon and a fried egg. Messy but delicious. I don’t know what’s in the Sammy sauce but it’s oh so tasty. Try getting a side and dipping your fries in it.
This next burger tastes better than it looks! The bacon jelly burger happened to be the daily special and it called my husband’s name! It’s a little bit sweet and a little bit spicy. Definitely original! Side note: Sammy’s doesn’t skimp on cheese- which I like.
If you don’t like beef, they also have chicken burgers, lamb burgers, salmon burgers, and Nathan’s all-beef hot dogs (dress these dogs like any burger on the menu). There’s something for everyone! Those seeking healthier options can ask for a lettuce wrap instead of a bun. That has to cut some calories, right?! And while I like all the burgers I’ve tried, I still stand by my guacamole burger!
Overall, Sammy’s has decent prices and a solid, all beef burger! I would put Sammy’s in your GPS; it’s probably not a place you would stumble upon! I’m looking forward to sitting out on the patio soon.
GO THERE (Sammy’s Burgers & Fries)! TRY THAT (Buffalo Chicken Rolls, Guacamole Burger)!
