I have a thing for British dramas. More specifically, PBS and Masterpiece Mystery. I basically live in England. Have you not noticed my British accent? It’s pretty good if I do say so myself. Seriously, this is why I feel drawn to restaurants like Cock & Bull. I want to walk into my nearest chippie pub with my best mates, order a pint or two, and eat my fish & chips wrapped in newspaper.
While the menu at Cock & Bull actually leans more toward American food, the Fish & Chips are everything I want my fish and chips to be. The fish is nicely breaded, flaky, and perfectly cooked. Plus, the batter isn’t too thick . . . I want to be able to taste the fish. Bring me that malt vinegar and I am one happy lady! Funny story. I had a middle school moment when it came time to order; I wanted the Cock’s Cod, but couldn’t bring myself to say it out loud. And when my husband ordered it for me, I laughed like I was 12 years old! Get a grip, lady!
I highly recommend starting with the Bavarian Pretzels. Served with beer cheese, these pretzels are exceptional. I’ve had some dry pretzels in my day, but these are soft, buttery, warm, and delicious! Perfect to share, but only if you’re feeling super kind.
We ended our meal with the decadent and super-rich Black and Tan (alternating layers of chocolate and blondie brownie bites drizzled with caramel and topped with whipped cream); this one I did share only because I was getting full. Each brownie bite was a little bit chewy and a whole lot of sweet. So good. Next time, that Sweet Pretzel is calling my name!
If you’re a craft/local beer fan, Cock & Bull has you covered. Their emphasis on local is demonstrated by their extensive beers on tap! Pop (soda) drinkers out there, can I just tell you that I geeked out because Cock & Bull has a Coke Freestyle machine? Orange Mello Yello Zero, I love you.
If you fancy a bloody good meal, check out Cock & Bull!
GO THERE (Cock & Bull)! TRY THAT (Pretzel App, Fish and Chips)!
