Trivia Nights of All Kinds!

I’m a game player.  Always have been.  Well, at least since my grandfather taught me to play poker at a very young age.  He was competitive and did not hesitate to take my change if I lost a hand.  Board games, card games, trivia games . . . I love it all.  Do I possibly get a little too competitive at times?  Maybe.  Do I possibly get a little annoyed when those playing with me don’t take the game seriously?  Maybe.  But, no matter what, I still love game play.  In fact, when I’m with my family, that’s pretty much what we do.  We play everything from Shanghai Rummy to Dominoes, from Sequence to Sorry, and everything in between. It’s no surprise that I’m attracted to trivia nights!

I think they know everything! – Anderson Pub & Grill

I never realized there were so many games happening around the city.  Honestly, I can’t name them all so I will focus on a few I’ve frequented and enjoyed.  While many of these trivia nights are happening all year long, I think in the winter, when the doldrums set in, the weather is unpredictable, and the darkness arrives by 5:30pm, getting out on a weeknight becomes harder.  But, scheduling a trivia night with friends and enjoying good food and good drinks might be just the way to beat those winter blues.

Where to Play:

  1. Taft Ale House in OTR: Trivia on Mondays from 8pm to 10pm.
  2. Little Miami Brewing Company in Milford: Singo on Tuesdays at 7pm.
  3. Braxton Labs in Newport: Last Call Feud on Wednesdays at 7pm.
  4. Anderson Pub & Grill in Anderson: Last Call Trivia on Thursdays from 8pm to 10pm.
  5. BLOC Coffee Company in Price Hill: General Knowledge Trivia on the fourth Friday of each month at 7pm.

Types of Games:

Trivia-

  • Think of the board game (all around knowledge is tested).
  • Most of these games, but not all, originate from a company called Last Call Trivia.
  • Play covers a variety of categories: art, anatomy, countries, sports, astrology, music, etc.
    • Play includes bonus rounds for extra points.
    • You can wager point values for your answers.
  • There are lots of theme nights happening such as Harry Potter, Seinfeld, Parks and Rec, and Disney.
  • It definitely helps to have a well-rounded team!

Feud-

  • Think Family Feud style guessing.
  • This fun game is more “what do real people say” and less “how much knowledge do you know”.
  • Game play is can be pretty hilarious.
  • You can go online and answer questions to be part of the survey answers.
  • It sparks great conversation; remember, it’s the most popular answer, not the right or smartest answer.

Singo-

  • I heart this game! The focus is music and recalling music of all genres and generations.
  • It’s like BINGO, but as one person told me, “it ain’t your grandmother’s bingo!”
  • Play is fast-paced.
  • At some point, it becomes one big sing-a-long.
  • You can play as an individual or as a team.
  • Some repeat players bring their bingo dabbers (hardcore)!
  • It’s like a weeknight concert that’s free and totally feel good.

  • There are places offering Trivia and Game Nights every single week night.
  • There are always prizes up for grabs.
  • Most places have food and drink available.
  • Come casual- grab a seat and relax!

If any of you know another great place to play various types of Trivia, hit me up!  It’s a great way to break the winter blues. At the vary least, why not break up the Monday through Friday routine? It’s nice to shake things up now and then!
