SuperChef’s: Breakfast Art in Columbus

For most recent visit to Columbus, I came prepared with an arsenal of new places to try.  I had my eye on SuperChef’s breakfast after seeing a friend’s photos on Facebook.  I saw pictures of tall-stacked pancakes drizzled with chocolate and topped with candy. . .

Had.  To.  Go.  I mean, just looks at the pics on the window!  Yes, please!

Trying to order from this menu turned out to be my kryptonite. As I scanned the tables around me, everything looked compelling!   I took longer than everyone else to decide so my sister went ahead and ordered this pretty drink while waiting. If you like morning cocktails, Superchef serves up a creative list.  My only wish?  For SuperChef to serve better coffee; the waiter wasn’t sure where the coffee came from and while it was OK, it wasn’t special.  And coffee is important to me, especially early in the morning!

While I was tempted to go for a superomelette, breakfast pizza, or wings and waffles,  I remembered what brought me here: dessert breakfast. Holding fast to my purpose, I went with the OG Pancake Platter featuring two Reese Cup Pancakes (peanut butter between the layers), two Blueberry Pancakes (layered with lemon butter cream), and two Baked Alaskan Banana Pudding Pancakes (served with a torched banana on top).  It was so pretty I almost didn’t want to eat it.  So so yummy!

My sister went for the tall-stack of gorgeous Red Velvet pancakes, heart-shaped, and layered with rich cream cheese icing.  If you dig a little fun with your flavor, SuperChef has both in spades…or hearts in this case.

My brother’s order wins best breakfast dessert of the day. He got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Waffles. These cinnamon sugar waffles are served with a caramel syrup and dusted with Cinnamon Toast Crunch flakes. We all had at least one bite and concurred that while our food was deliciously sweet and scrumptious, his order of waffles edged ours out just a bit.

I can’t forget to mention the best side: candied bacon. Bacon+brown sugar+maple syrup= jaw dropping, shut the front door goodness. None of us could finish our meals, but not a bite of this bacon was left anywhere on the table. It’s sweet and savory and perfectly cooked.

Candied bacon. Enough said.

Candied bacon. Enough said.

If sweet breakfast isn’t your thing and you prefer more protein and veggies, SuperChef does dish out some pretty special omelets, breakfast pizzas, and breakfast sandwiches.

GO THERE (Superchef)! TRY THAT (OG Pancake Platter, Cinnamon Toast Crunch Waffles, Candied Bacon)!
